Consolidating the 3E Preserve
Thanks to an anonymous donation, 3E has been able to buy three additional lots contiguous to the seven it purchased in the past year. The new lots, added to the core 3E land, will consolidate the 3E holdings to form a continuous stretch of forest that will be preserved in perpetuity for the 3E mission as part of the planned land trust (fiducie d’utilité sociale, FUS). With the new additions, the 3E land will cover 110 acres 44.5 hectares) representing all of the local biomes, stretching from an old growth maple forest on the side of a mountain through a tapestry of mixed deciduous and conifer forest to low-lying wetlands, and including a crystalline trout stream and a small stretch of lakefront. The newest lots contain an ecologically significant marsh. In just the first few days after the purchase, an otter, a mink, deer, and a snapping turtle were sighted there, as well as signs of beaver and bear. The area is prime habitat for the endangered wood tortoise (although we have yet to verify its actual presence)…
Spring Slips into Summer (2026)

The warm months fly by so quickly. Spring and summer are times of intense activity at 3E. It starts even before the snow has really begun to melt, when collaborators, local and international, gather for our spring ritual of maple syrup production and surrounding activities. This year we decided to produce a relatively small amount, and to take advantage of the slower pace to hone our techniques. Landcare Affinity Group

In response to threats of encroaching development near the boundary of 3E land, a group of about a dozen 3E participants self-formed last summer to raise funds among themselves to buy an additional forest lot. This purchase was completed in February 2026, bringing the total of newly added land to the 3E site to 13 strategically located acres forming a buffer zone from development while providing new affordances for 3E activities. Long-term possibilities include the construction of a meeting house to facilitate joint activities between 3E participants and local residents, and an ecological dwelling to extend 3E’s accommodation possibilities, not only during special events, but year-round as a base for 3E participants wishing to have more sustained, on-the-ground engagement with the project…

Reading Groups
Reading groups are a staple of ongoing 3E activities. 3E reading groups study a great variety of texts, but our main emphasis is on process thought (broadly understood, approaches that ask “how” rather than “what,” and begin from notions of event and activity rather subject or substance). Learning Philosophy for 3 Ecologies
In his prescient, 1989 extended manifesto, Les trois écologies (The Three Ecologies), Felix Guattari makes a prolonged plea: any response to the end-times of ecological devastation must be transversal, and that transversality must navigate the interstices of the social, the psychic/conceptual and the environmental. The three ecologies: “a nascent subjectivity; a constantly mutating socius; an environment in the process of being reinvented.” Transversality cuts from the angle of the unforeseen to trouble the field from the edges in. The three ecologies in transversality means how the social bends the conceptual, how the environmental catches sociality in the making, how the conceptual is activated in the field…

The 3Ecologies Project is an autonomous organization dedicated to participatory experimentation in research-creation. It operates at the intersection of artistic practice, philosophy, and community engagement, building on the nearly two decades of experience of its parent organization, the SenseLab, based at Concordia Univerisity, a pioneer in the theory and practice of research-creation (senselab.ca). Its aim is to catalyze the emergence of new forms of creative collaboration across disciplinary boundaries, and to disseminate the resulting “techniques of relation” for adoption by artists and social actors, for adaptation to their needs. It seeks to operate as a “process seed bank” disseminating seeds of creative practice that can impart self-organizing momentum to outside artists, collectives, and organizations. The 3E Project operates as an extra-university research and learning environment, according to the principles of a processual gift economy. It is dedicated to an ethos of radical openness. A nonprofit organization registered in Quebec, all of its activities are open to all and free of charge. 3E places special emphasis on creating a welcoming environment for neurodiversity, not only supportive of but positively learning from the normally undervalued experiential and perceptual worlds of pathologized and racialized communities. The perspective is ecological, in an expanded sense adopted from philosopher/activist Felix Guattari. The “three ecologies” are the social, the environmental, and the conceptual, as they enmesh in every event. 3E poses the question of sustainability in that expanded framework. 3E operates as a node in the international network developed by the SenseLab, which includes over 800 participants worldwide, with active local groups in Montreal, Australia, Brazil, and several locations in Europe, and formal partnerships with more than two dozen university and art-organization partners. Distance collaboration tools are used to cross-pollinate ideas and approaches between network members. Activities cycle between online collaboration and live participatory research-creation events of experimental format. The development of new digital tools for cycling between locally embodied and networked online interactions as part of an integrated “creative process engine” is a long-term goal of 3E.

À cette fin, le Projet expérimentera des techniques d’enquête innovatrices catalysant l’émergence de pratiques collectives autogérées.
Ces objets seront atteints par la pratique active de la recherche philosophique et de la création artistique en offrant un accès libre et gratuit au savoir par le biais d’activités variées, axées sur la mobilisation, la diffusion et la circulation des techniques expérimentales développées au sein de l’Institut, le tout sans intention de gain pécuniaire pour ses membres.

Dans le but de procurer un support financier à l’atteinte de ces objets, les moyens d’action suivants sont employés : présenter des demandes de subventions gouvernementales, recevoir des dons, legs et autres contributions de même nature en argent, en valeurs mobilières ou immobilière et administrer de tels dons, legs et contributions, organiser des campagnes de financement dans le but de recueillir des fonds pour fins charitables.
